Open Source@lemmy.ml•Germany has just made the standard Open Document Format (ODF) mandatory
203·14 days agoThis is something very important: Don’t focus on aplications (FOSS or not) but on open data formats and proper import/export mechanisms so you can switch applications easily.
I think that this should be done on the network level by providing a DNS Server via DHCP or include filtering in your router if you are afraid of users changing the DNS Server (but maybe it’s better to lock the network settings in this case).
But I see that not every User has the possibility or ability to do it this way. therefor having the option to do it in the OS is feasible for these users.
I especially waited for the Parental control features to land in GNOME 50. Great to see they made it into the release. Now I don’t need aditional tools to enforce bedtime for my son.
Document annotations in the Document viewer is also a nice thing. But I would rather have proper Signing support via certificates for professional use cases.
Thanks for the comment. But I think something like a simple budgeting tool does not really fit my need. I could use my existing banking solution and achieve the same thing. But I want harder restrictions like:
- Sent some money once per month
- No possibility to exceed the budget, because it is not linked to my bank account whatsoever
Thanks for the Tooltips. But I think instead of using a separate budgeting tool I could also just use my already existing banking solution and get the same result. These Budgeting Tools do not Hard limit or enforce a Budget. Because (for me) they are just more advanced Excel Sheets.
But I want something more in the way of:
- I sent some amount of money once per month
- I can choose projects I want to donate to
- Everything is tracked, but just visible for me
- No possibility at all to exceed my budget and no linkage to my real banking account
But I see that this intention of me was not clear in my inital post.
A simple spreadsheet is to “raw” for me. It basically boils down to: Everything needs to be setup manually. But I want to manage donations, not develop a donation management tool/Excel Sheet

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Note taking app that I can link between my laptop and phone ?
2·23 days agoI also second this. Working like a charm for me over 4 different devices and 3 different Operating systems.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Another suggestion post (notes)English
5·25 days agoYou can use Joplin without Paying. You only need to pay for Joplin Cloud for syncing. But you can use a selfhosted Joplin Server or Webdav to sync you notes without it.

Me personally I am using a Lenovo Yoga 370 (don’t know what an update to date comparable model from Lenovo would be) with GNOME as DE. For PDF annotations I mainly use Xournal++, which works quite well for annotating PDF’s and highlighting certain parts. You can get more information in the Xournal++ Documentation at https://xournalpp.github.io/guide/pdfs/
